It is said that there are more than 300 ethnic groups in Indonesia, and different languages are spoken in different regions of the same island. Most Indonesians learn "Indonesian" for the first time when they enter elementary school. Indonesian has no intonation, letters are written in the alphabet, and there is no tense when it comes to grammar, so the more words you learn, the more you can speak. Also, the vowel sound "aiueo" is the same as in Japanese. People are very friendly, and it is not unusual for people who have never met before to strike up a conversation with each other. Let's discover the good qualities of Japan by experiencing the language and culture of other countries, not only Indonesia, and let's aim for spiritual growth together.

I am actually a first year student of the Indonesian language course. Of the two fulfilling years I spent there, the most impressive was the six months I spent studying abroad. While studying Indonesian at the University of Budilhur, I went to shopping malls with friends I made there and talked about love. By the end of the three months, the language I could not understand at first had easily entered my head, and I was able to enjoy daily conversations with my local friends and teachers. Indonesian has a similar grammar to English, so if we study together, we can improve our language skills. It is also a sibling language to Malay, so it can be understood in Malay-speaking countries such as Singapore and Malaysia. It is a surprisingly convenient language. Above all, I like the sound of Indonesian and feel comfortable just conversing with local people.
After graduation, I hoped to have an opportunity to make use of my Indonesian language skills, so I found a job at a travel agency. In my third year with the company, I was in charge of domestic travel arrangements when I received an inquiry from a customer from Indonesia. When I explained in Indonesian, the caller hung up with the words "Terima kasih! (Thank you!)" and the caller hung up. It had been a while since I had a conversation in Indonesian, and it made me happy. I am now in charge of arranging educational tours in Japan, but someday I would like to work at the Jakarta or Bali branch, where Indonesian is spoken all the time. I would like to tell Indonesian people about the charms of Japan.
