To all entering undergraduate and graduate students,
parents and guardians, community members, and current students:

Cancellation of the 2020 Entrance Ceremony

After careful consideration of present circumstances surrounding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Kanda University of International Studies has made the difficult decision to cancel its entrance ceremony, which was scheduled to be held on April 1st.

The entrance ceremony is an important event not only for our students, but also for their parents and guardians, and it pains us to make this solemn announcement. We ask for your understanding that this decision, as with our decision to cancel graduation, was made with the highest consideration for the health and safety of our community.

As we wait for a resolution to this global crisis, please rest assured that our university faculty and staff are working tirelessly to create practical solutions for holding classes in the new academic term. The Government of Japan has announced its intent to hold a meeting of experts on the 19th of March, and therefore, we will defer our decisions on the start date of classes, guidance, and all other events until after the 19th. Please check the university homepage regularly for updates. We will announce any further changes in our policy and response as circumstances require. Meanwhile, we ask for your cooperation in taking infection prevention measures, looking after your own health, remaining calm, and preparing for the start of classes.

As long as humans live on this Earth, we will inevitably continue to encounter new diseases and other disasters. There will surely be many challenges for which solutions seem out of reach, and many times that we will feel uncertain about the path forward. In times such as these, I feel that it is of the utmost importance that we each think independently and deeply, and work to coexist in harmony.

I hope that we can all put our heads together to generate solutions, so that we may resume our everyday lives as quickly as possible.
